چکیده

The initial stages of oxidation on roughened Cu(1 1 0) surface were explored by an in situ ultra-high vacuum transmission electron microscope (UHV-TEM). The dynamic observation of the nucleation and growth of Cu oxide islands shows a highly enhanced nucleation rate on the roughened Cu(1 1 0) surface. The kinetic data obtained from the initial stages of the oxidation indicate that oxygen surface diffusion plays a dominant role in the nucleation of the oxide islands; however, the growth of the three-dimensional oxide islands is caused by both oxygen surface diffusion and

The Surface Oxidation Kinetics of Cu(100) and (110) Thin Films Visualised by In situ UHV-TEM

In situ microscopy provides dynamic information about nucleation, growth and coalescence of islands in real time. We utilised in situ ultra-high vacuum transmission electron microscopy to gain fundamental insights into the oxidation of Cu films. A semiquantitative model, where oxygen surface diffusion is the dominant mechanism for transport, nucleation and growth of the copper oxide, describes ...

In situ ultra-high vacuum transmission electron microscopy studies of the transient oxidation stage of Cu and Cu alloy thin films.

Because environmental stability is an essential property of most engineered materials, many theories exist to explain oxidation mechanisms. Yet, nearly all classical oxidation theories assume a uniform growing film, where structural changes were not considered because of the previous lack of experimental procedure to visualize this non-uniform growth in conditions that allowed for highly contro...

Bridging the Pressure Gap in Water and Hydroxyl Chemistry on Metal Surfaces: the Cu(110) case

We report the first measurements on the quantitative partitioning of water between its molecular and dissociated forms at a gas-metal interface under elevated water pressures and temperatures. By means of synchrotron-based in-situ photoelectron spectroscopy, mixed H2O and OH phases on Cu(110) at H2O pressures up to 1 Torr in the 275 – 520 K temperature range are studied. In increasing order of ...

Initial Stages of Oxidation of Copper and Copper-iron Alloy

The initial oxidation stages of copper and copper-iron alloys have been studied by the AtomProbe Field Ion Microscope (AP-FIM). The depth profiles of copper oxide formed in-situ were successfully determined. The composition of the oxide was close to the value of Cu20, but a large concentration fluctuation was found. The interface between the oxide and the metal was found to be diffuse, the widt...

The thermal conductivity investigation of nanofluids containing decorated Ag nanorods with Cu nanoparticles using statistical method

In this paper, we investigated the statistical analysis of thermal conductivity of nanofluids containing of decorated Ag nanorods with Cu nanoparticles. For this purpose Ag-Cu hybrid is synthesized and characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD). TEM image shows that Cu nanoparticles successfully decorate on the outer surface of Ag nanorods. Th...
